Jack's Robot Party

plushie keychain robots for inside the pinata

Marshmallow Robots!!!

the minimal effort cake ..... robot pencils found at Coombs. I had envisioned this grand standing robot cake when planning this party ..... haha, no time for that!

the scramble after the pinata was busted open

half of the pinata made a great helmet!
maybe i should just make a bunch of these for party hats next year!

*************************************

So here we are at the end of another beautiful summer weekend! This really felt like the first summer weekend!

We had the kiddie pool out and a bunch of family and friends over for Jack's b-day party! It has been great so far!

The only thing missing is my husband ....... he's gone to Ottawa for a conference that he is speaking at. I am so proud of him, but wish it wasn't for so long and not so far away. Cory got to be here for Jack's party, but missed out on today's activities.

I had made a pinata for Jack's party and it was to be the grand finale ...... but it flopped. Literally, the first hit from jack sent it flopping on the ground ...... so i just went with it and let the kids hit it on the ground. Unfortunatly i didn't stick to the smallest to biggest rule so the next boy to hit the pinata, broke it clean in half!

Really no-one cared, everyone swarmed in for their treats and that was that. I think the true highlight was the marshmallow robots we all made! All in all it's been a blast!! Definatly the most fun party we've had for Jack!

New Skills

My little bread loaf

My very first skein!
Our homemade valentines!

Wow! I made bread! I have been trying to make a decent loaf for a long time now. I've tried making a sourdough starter, using the bread machine (just for mixing and rising) and now I have found something that works!

I got a book called "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day." It's really unbelievable and quite fantastic! You make a wet dough and keep it in the fridge for up to two weeks. Ours only lasted a few days ... i made a loaf a day all weekend!

The other new skill I am trying to master is spinning yarn from roving. I took a drop spindle class on Friday and have made three small skeins of yarn this weekend. I originally wanted to learn so I could make yarn out of newspapers, but have a new use for my homespun yarn. I need some thinner yarn for sewing all my giant granny squares together. I didn't want to use the bulky yarn I am using to make the squares as it was just too thick. I've yet to try out my new yarn, as it's drying and setting.

We have been battling some nasty colds for a few days now, so have been laying low. We did manage a family trip to the museum. The trip ended up being quite fantastic. We noticed that in the gift shop there were several huge, blown up photographs, mounted for display. I guess they were from a past exhibit and no longer needed. We got a small Prince George one and a very very large blow up of a 50's house Western Homes magazine. It now hangs in our hallway away from direct sunlight (as suggested by linda .... thanks!). I will have to take a photo of it soon as it's quite stunning. I plan on doing a whole post of house photos as we are getting things a bit more set up around here!

Progress!

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE

Homemade Herbed Butter!

We've had a pretty good week so far, not too many tantrums, well none really! Today we had a litle visit with friends, then a nice long visit with my dad and his wife! It was a great day. Near the end of the day we got caught in a rainstorm, but we weren't far from home! Our biggest accomplishments were picking our first salad from the garden, and making butter!! Jack really got into the butter making, shaking and shaking! I decided to make it a herbed butter, but kick myself for not tasting it before adding the herbs.

As a result of making butter, I now have real buttermilk, so will make some buttermilk biscuts tomorrow to have with the fresh butter! Okay It's time to hang out with the hubby! Both kids are in bed and quiet before 9pm today!!!!!
